Training program for women managers

The last in the series of trainings organized by MEF for women managers in private, public and civil society sector took place today. The trainings were realized in the scope of the project “Women in Management in Montenegro – Support to Leadership and Professional Development of Women in Montenegro” that MEF implements with the ILO support.

Training participants were welcomed by the ILO National Coordinator, Nina Krgovic and Zvezdana Oluic, a Head of Department for Marketing and PR and Adviser for Women Entrepreneurship at MEF who highlighted that the training was specially designed for women managers and was aimed at supporting the ambitions and initiatives of business women by helping them towards their professional accomplishment and advancement and empowering them to show the full potential in their economic, political and social lives.

Four one-day long, thematically connected trainings took place from September 30th to October 14th and were led by the group of trainers (Ivana Malovic, Smilja Vukicevic, Zarko Vukicevic and Danka Cetkovic). 25 women managers as well as business women interested for further development of their careers and advance to higher managerial positions had the opportunity to attend a tailor made series of trainings in a very dynamic environment and utilizing trainers’ mentorship support. The whole training is seen as a sort of platform for the development of a basis of knowledge, skills and professional results.

Leadership potential and positive impact of active participation of women in management structures and bodies, are the elements that point to the need that women willing to invest in their career development should be encouraged, supported and publicly promoted as good practices examples to be looked up to. Especially, having in mind that, despite the fact there are more women with higher education diploma compared to men, still a substantial number of organizations in Montenegro (in private, public and civil society sector and media) are intentionally giving up on potential, knowledge and skills of this very qualified staff, and subsequently good business results and other benefits that would come out of engaging that staff. It is confirmed by the outcomes of the survey MEF conducted among companies revealing that women in our country do less responsible and less paid jobs advancing more slowly through hierarchy compared to men.

Training participants will be publicly promoted at the final conference of the project where, among other things, the best women managers are to be given awards based on the Call for Applications MEF will publish soon. The training program is one of project activities MEF realizes with an aim of supporting women leadership and professional development in Montenegro. It is part of a regional project “Promoting Inclusive Labor Market Solutions in the Western Balkans” implemented jointly by the ILO and the UNDP and financed by Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
